Effects of Pruning and Debudding on the Growth , Nutrition and Berry Setting of Vitis labruscana B. cv. Kyoho

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of pruning and debudding of bearing mother branches or canes on the vigor and berry setting of 8-year-old ¢¥Kyoho¢¥ grapevine in Cheonan area. Percent bud bursts were lower on canes pruned at long or medium in size than those pruned at short length. However, debudding on the long or medium size canes increased the number of bud burst. The fresh weight of new shoot was higher in canes pruned at long and medium size during the early stage of development. Canes pruned at long or medium in size showed a decreasing trend of leaf area. However, debudding on those canes increased the leaf area. The number of seeded berries per cluster and the rate of berry setting were higher in long or medium size canes compared to those of short in size. Especially, debudding appeared to further increase percent bent setting in clusters. Total carbohydrates in shoots increased by 16th May and then stabilized afterwards. Total carbohydrates in shoots was low in the long-pruned cane, while nitrogen contents decreased continuously.
